Dear Ivan:

In case you look up from your iPad this year, you may notice that Mommy and Daddy are watching the news.  You may also notice that the news is all about something called Russia.  It also concerns connections between Russia and someone named Donald Trump (yes, that fat Orange man, who wears really long ties, and can’t string together an English-language sentence).

Just so you know, we’re all going to be okay.  The only real problem is that the Orange Man is going to do a bunch of things that will embarrass the country and which will require undoing as soon as he’s out of office (possibly sooner than he thinks), much the way some young kids embarrass their families and do things that their families have to undo right away (though this totally doesn’t apply to you).

In any event, I just want you to know that Mommy and I are on top of this and you don’t have to worry about it.  However, that said, it would be nice if you’d look up from the iPad once in awhile.
