Dear Ivan:
I’ve noticed that you’ve really gotten interested in superheroes lately, especially Batman and Superman. That’s great. There is a lot we can learn from these characters.
First, fighting for justice is a noble cause. As you know, Mommy and I don’t want you to fight, but sometimes, in limited circumstances, there are reasons to fight the good fight. The good news is that in the best fights, you don’t win because you’re physically stronger but because your cause is just, your will is strong, and your opponent’s position is on shaky ground.
Second, being a hero (or a superhero) means being willing to stand tall even when it is unpopular and you must do so alone.
Third, heroes don’t quit. Notice I didn’t say that heroes don’t lose. Sometimes they do. Sometimes they get beaten. But, even when beaten, heroes don’t give up. They acknowledge the loss, learn from it, and rededicate themselves to the cause.
And, there’s one more thing — heroes know that to be truly heroic, they need to have a cape!
So, suit up and go be heroic. And, remember, I’m happy to be your sidekick.
Love,
Daddy
