Recently, I was honored to receive from the folks at Project R.A.C.E. a gift box of Multicultural crayons. It was a wonderful gift for our biracial son — a box of crayons with colors representing shades that resemble his skin tone.
While too much is often made of race, when it comes to multiracial and multicultural kids being able to see in popular culture, colors, shapes, and people who look like and represent them, it seems like we can’t talk about it enough.
So, with that, I’m wondering if you had to describe the color of your multiracial or multicultural skin tone for a crayon designer, what would you say?

I have four biracial children (black and white) and they are all four different shades of beauty. My kids range the ages of one to thirteen. I think it would be hard to describe to a crayon maker the shades. My children skin tone varies through out the year due to the seasons. I tend to call my kids skintones by coffee colors and they love it. Mocha, expresso, white chocolate mousse, and milk frappe.
Thanks for writing! Love the descriptions of the colors! Sounds like your kids are highly caffeinated 🙂
