Honoring Black History Month from the Interracial Perspective

Written by Alex on January 31, 2012 - 1 Comments

My wife is Black.  I am White.  Our son, Ivan, born just more than 5 months ago is Biracial.  That means that our 3-person family is exactly half-Black and half-White.

As a result,  in honor of Black History Month, our little family decided to put together a small film festival, a list of movies that demonstrate how Black and White can work together cooperatively and for the betterment of all. In other words, it’s a list of Morgan Freeman movies:

Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins in Shawshank Redemption

Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy in Driving Miss Daisy

Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven

Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood in Million Dollar Baby

Morgan Freeman and Christian Bale in The Dark Knight

Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon in Invictus

Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt in Seven

Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson in The Bucket List

Morgan Freeman and Kevin Costner in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Morgan Freeman and Matthew Broderick in Glory

Morgan Freeman and Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty

Morgan Freeman and Steve Carrell in Evan Almighty

Morgan Freeman and Robert Redford in An Unfinished Life

Morgan Freeman and John Cusack in The Contract

Morgan Freeman and Ben Affleck in The Sum of All Fears

Morgan Freeman and Christopher Walken in the Maiden Heist

Morgan Freeman and Renee Zellwegger in Nurse Betty

Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd in High Crimes

Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd in Kiss The Girls

Morgan Freeman and Paz Vega in 10 Items Or Less

So, to Morgan, we say “thank you” for showing us how well Black and White can work together. We love you for it and for your body of work.
