As we sat around our Passover Seder last night recounting the story of the Exodus, I was struck by the retelling of the 10 Plagues. In particular, it struck me that we are often plagued in life by various things. Indeed, those of us in multiracial families know that we are plagued frequently by questions about what we are. And, this led me to create the:
10 Plagues (Really just questions) of the Multiracial Family:
1. Were your families upset when they met your spouse?
2. You guys have jungle fever, right?
3. Why a Black woman (why a Black guy)?
4. Why don’t you stick with your own kind?
5. Is your child adopted?
6. What race is your child?
7. Is that woman the nanny? Or an escort?
8. You know Biracial kids are always beautiful, right?
9. The sex is better, right?
10. Does Obama come to the meetings?
