Being a parent is great. It’s also tough stuff. But, ultimately, it’s a journey that you go on with your child wherein you learn a lot about your child, the World and yourself.
In this last week, this is what I’ve learned:
1. Being a dad means at least once a week practicing your throwing motion because when it finally comes time to play catch you can’t throw a three-hopper or your kid will never look at you the same.
2. Being a dad means understanding that peeing is no longer a private activity, it’s a teachable moment for your 2 year-old son.
3. Being a dad means sleeping till noon on a Saturday is more tantalizing than sexy women.
4. Being a dad means your idea of “dressing up” is clean khakis and, possibly (though not necessarily) clean boxer shorts
5. Being a dad means a vacation consists of watching the DVR of the football game when everyone’s asleep while drinking a glass of your favorite wine and eating pizza . . . without a plate, dammit!
6. Being a dad means recognizing that your reflexes are slowing, yet still maintaining lightning-fast speed when X’ing out the screen with the porn on your laptop.
7. Being a dad means acknowledging that your continued existence means that your dad was a model of restraint.
